Why we built Skill7
Your team already knows the way
Every growing team has a way of doing things that works. You can see it in the checklist for opening up in the morning, the handbook that welcomes new starters before their first day, and the safety policy that looks after everyone. None of that happened by accident. Someone cared enough to write it down.
The knowledge in your SOPs, handbooks and policies is some of the most valuable work your business has done. It often holds years of judgement: which shortcuts work, which steps matter most, and the reasons behind both. It’s written by the people who know the job best, in the words your team uses every day.
That’s where we wanted to start: with what your team already has.
What we noticed
When we looked closely at how growing teams welcome new people, the same story kept coming up. The documents were good. What took time was the next step: turning a great document into a course people finish.
That step is a craft of its own. Someone decides what matters most, breaks it into lessons that build on each other, writes questions that help people remember, and packages the result so it runs where the team learns. In larger organisations, that’s the work of an instructional designer. Many growing teams don’t have one, and their managers’ time is precious. So a lot of good know-how is shared less widely than the people who wrote it would like.
We saw an opportunity in that. The expertise is already there, and it deserves a way to reach everyone who needs it.
What Skill7 does
Skill7 helps you shape what your team knows into a finished course.
You bring what you know: PDFs, Word files, web links or pasted text. Skill7 maps what your documents cover and turns it into a clear course plan, organised into modules. Skill7’s AI assistant then drafts lessons, diagrams, flashcards and quizzes, in a scroll or slide format. You review and edit the lessons in your own words, and you stay in charge of every word.
When the course is ready, you share it your way. Export SCORM 1.2 or 2004, xAPI or cmi5 for your learning management system (LMS), the software many organisations use to assign training and keep records. Or share the course with learners directly in Skill7, with enrolment and progress built in. There’s a Word export too, for review and sign-off.
Who it’s for
We’re building Skill7 for two groups.
The first is growing businesses without an instructional designer: founders, operations leads and team managers who know their material inside out and want every new starter to learn it their way.
The second is eLearning studios and freelance instructional designers. They already know how to build great training. Skill7 takes the first draft from a client’s documents, so they have more time for their craft: the story, the judgement and the client relationship. Each client can have its own workspace and brand kit.
What’s next
Skill7 is in early access. We’re welcoming small teams in waves, so we can work closely with each group and shape the product together as we go.
